Lester Sumrall (1913-1996) was an American Pentecostal evangelist, teacher, author, and television host. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in the Mississippi Delta. At the age of 17, he became a Christian and was baptized in the Holy Spirit.
After preaching in various small churches, Sumrall launched his own ministry, Lester Sumrall Evangelistic Association, in 1957. He traveled extensively around the world, preaching the gospel and conducting crusades, healing services, and Bible schools. He was also a prolific author, writing over 130 books on topics such as faith, healing, prayer, and spiritual warfare.
In 1975, Sumrall founded LeSEA Broadcasting Corporation, which today operates a network of TV and radio stations, as well as a satellite network that reaches over 100 countries. He hosted several TV programs, including "Harvest Time," which aired on over 30 stations in the US and Canada.
Sumrall was known for his straightforward preaching style, his emphasis on the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit, and his dedication to helping those in need. He also had a passion for missions and founded several organizations to support missionaries and evangelists around the world.
Sumrall passed away on April 28, 1996, but his legacy continues through his ministries and the impact he had on countless individuals around the world.
